I noticed in my search on the net that there are many resources available. The quality, completeness and price of all of these differ a lot. A little bit of guidance might therefore be needed. The websites provided here, are the ones that I use extensively during my own research.

More than 22 million passengers and members of ships' crews entered the United States through Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1892 and 1924. Programs

Great Family
I tested many different programs, some for free, others very expensive, and I noticed that most of them where unable to create a modern looking website of your GEDCOM file. I finally came accross Great Family. Regretfully, the program is now shareware (and not for free anymore) but it has three other advantages, it is relatively easy to use, it provides great family trees (visible overview) and it is able to generate a rather modern looking website. Other programs, such as Legacy might be more complete in terms of the management of your genealogy data, but I prefer Great Family.
